Roberta Johnson, a longtime resident of Pacific Palisades, died peacefully in her sleep on December 22 at age 90.
Johnson married Lt. Colonel Frederick T. Johnson in Pennsylvania in June 1942, and they moved to the Palisades in 1946. In those early years, Johnson traveled a lot because of her husband's U.S. Air Force career, but she always enjoyed returning to the Palisades. She lived continuously on Galloway Street for more than 45 years.
Born in Pennsylvania in 1919, Johnson received her nursing degree from St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In the Palisades, she worked for many years with the Ladies' Auxiliary of the American Legion, Post 283, bringing joy to those who served their country so tirelessly.
Johnson's granddaughter, Lauren Johnson, took care of her and was at her side when she passed away.
Johnson is survived by her devoted son, Tom (wife Mary) of Sherman Oaks; four loving grandchildren, Michael, Lauren, Katherine and Evan; two nieces, Michelle Achen of Pacific Palisades and Susan Delao of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and a grandniece and grandnephew.
One of those rare people who brought joy to everyone, Johnson always had a positive outlook about everything she did. She will be greatly missed.
On December 30, she was interred at the Los Angeles National Cemetery next to Frederick, who died in 2001.
